It was a hard-fought game

Sliema Frank Salt are momentarily in second place after they managed to beat Sirens Greentube with a goal scored late in the last session by Jamie Gambin. As expected, it was a hard-fought game as both teams were practically even in the game, but Sliema were never in disadvantage and this reason permitted them to stay always one step ahead.

Sirens could have done better in the first part of the game, but after recovering they failed to take their occasions late in the game and lost at least a point that could have been important in their quest of finishing second.

It was a tense match for Sliema as they protested heavily several times with the referees’ decisions. They had again missing Edward Aquilina.

Jerome Gabarretta scored the only goal of the session as Sliema won the first session 1-0. Sirens improved in the beginning of the second session and scored from Clint Mercieca, but Sliema scored twice in the second part of the session to enter the break with a two-goal advantage.

Typical from Sirens, they were better after the break and looked the sharp team that won against Sliema in the first session. They scored three times from Jacob Sciberras, Marc Grech and Christian Presciutti to equalise after Meli’s gowl in between. The game was going back and forth, but Sliema managed to find two goals in the space of few minutes to keep their two-goal advantage that they started the session, but Marc Grech scored just before the whistle.

David Cutajar made the score 6-6 in the beginning of the last session. This deciding session saw both teams trying to stay compact in defence but also risking to score the winning goal. The game looked to be heading in a draw which could have been a fair result, but Sliema had other plans as they scored thanks to Jamie Gambin.
